There are so many rules when it comes to wearing makeup. Like, always use a primer & always wash your beauty blender. But as much as rules sometimes aren’t fun, they are for your own good. Today, we’re sharing one rule that you should never disobey. And we’re telling you why.
Ladies, here are some convincing reasons why you should never go to bed with makeup on. Think of this as a ‘how to remove makeup guide’ because we want you to have great skin.
Now, we understand that putting on makeup can be a hit or miss. There are those days that you literally want to throw your eyeshadows away, and then there are those special days. On these days your winged liner is perfect, lips are p-p-popping, and the light is hitting your glow just right. So taking that makeup off at night is out of the question. After all that work?
But what if we told you that leaving that makeup on is leading you down a long, dark and treacherous hallway of dull, clogged, acne-ridden skin?
At night, even though you aren’t active your skin is. It does most of its work at night, shedding dead skin cells and replacing them with new ones. The makeup you leave unwashed will hinder this process and eventually lead to problematic skin. So instead of your skin taking out the trash at night, it’s simply trying to breathe.
Leaving makeup on at night also worsens the pollution and grime you acquired during the day. Skin becomes very absorbent at night and will literally drink up whatever is on it. So if you have makeup on, especially those containing silicone, your skin will end up clogged by morning.
Based on the above, we could say that cleansing and exfoliating might be more important than moisturizing. Your skin’s ability to remove dead skin cells will promote cell turnover, which is responsible for fresh skin.
So what’s the solution? Keeping your skin clean, especially at night. Here are a few tips on how to remove makeup:
- Keep makeup wipes close to your bed. This way you can take off those layers of makeup right before bed
- Use a face cleanser like the micellar cleansing water. It takes off the makeup and does all that extra of rubbing work for you
- Set an alarm. If you know you usually hit the sheets around 10 PM, set an alarm for 9:30 PM. This way you can get started on your nighttime routine and give your skin all it needs to do a good job.
- Take off makeup as soon as you get in the house. This can be a bit tricky, but it works. Once you walk in the door, get that makeup off so you don’t forget later
