Steaming your face is a great way to refresh, deep cleanse your pores and also give your skin an instant kick. It’s a quick and easy way to get an instant glow.
There are so many benefits you can get from steaming your face. It’s great for acne prone skin as it unclogs the pores. It also boosts blood circulation in the face for a radiant healthy glow. The great thing is you don’t have to go to a spa to get in on all these benefits. We show you how to steam your face right in the comfort of your home.
Step 1 – Wash your face
This is the first step of any beauty routine because it’s important to begin on a clean slate. Also hot steam opens up your pores and when your pores are open, your skin absorbs whatever is on it. So if there’s dirt on the surface of your skin, it’s going to sink into your pores and that can cause breakouts. So be sure to cleanse the skin thoroughly first.
Step 2 – Exfoliate (optional)
If you plan to exfoliate, then it’s better to do it before you steam. Steaming makes the surface of your skin really tender and scrubbing it afterwards could bruise it. So to avoid micro tears which could cause hyperpigmentation, exfoliate first.
Step 3- Steam
To steam, you can either use a facial steam device or do it with another method that we’ll show you in a bit. However, steam devices are more convenient and effective, because the steam maintains a consistent temperature.
You can shop for steam devices here from N5000.

If you don’t want to use a facial steamer, no worries. Here’s how you can still get a steam treatment:
Heat up about one litre of water till it’s completely boiled and pour into a bucket. Set a timer for 10 minutes then bend over the bucket and place a large towel over your head to trap the steam. Make sure your face is not too close to the steam so you don’t scald your skin. As the skin hits your skin, you’ll literally feel your face swell a little because your pores are opening up. The heat might be uncomfortable but as long as it’s not burning your skin, just wait it out for 10 minutes and you’re done.

Step 4 – Wash
Next, it’s time to wash off the gunk, dirt and oil that have seeped out from your pores because of the steam. Use a gentle cleanser with warm water and rinse with cold water when you’re done to close your pores.
That’s it! You won’t believe how much your skin will glow afterwards. If you’ve got the time, you can follow up with a mask. Check out this Morrocan clay mask that’ll be just perfect.
