Braids are so beautiful but they can be stressful! After sitting for hours to get them done, if they are too tight they become a nightmare. How do you handle this after spending all that money and time?
Here are the ways you can loosen tight braids:
1. Use a leave in conditioner
Using a leave in conditioner will greatly help to relieve the tension on your hair. Dilute the conditioner with some water, pour in a spray bottle and apply some to the roots of your braids.

3. Use Moist Heat To Loosen Tight Braids
Moist heat opens up your hair shaft and really helps to relieve the pressure from tight braids. Sit under a hair steamer for 10 minutes but don’t cover your hair with a shower cap. Ensure the steam is directed at the areas you feel the most pain. Alternatively, cover your hair with a shower cap and place a hot towel on it.
4. Massage Your Scalp With Oil
Tight braids can make your scalp really sore and irritated. Massaging the scalp with olive oil or any oil of your choice can prevent serious scalp injury. But when massaging, be careful not to apply too much pressure with your fingers.

4. Reduce Manipulation
If your braids are really tight, then it’s not a good time to be styling it. Moving the braids around and especially packing it up, will increase the tension on your scalp. So just let it fall loosely.
5. Take Them Out
If your braids are extremely uncomfortable and none of the relief methods above work, then you should just take them out. It’s really not that deep. No matter how beautiful the braids are or how much it cost to get it done, it’s not worth losing your hair over. Too much pressure on your scalp can cause traction alopecia and it will take a while to reverse.
