As women who know the struggle of natural hair, we also understand the struggle to find hairstyles. It’s bad enough you have to worry about keeping your hair healthy and retaining length.
Now, you also have to add how to style the hair to your to-do list, and that’s not how you want to start the week. So, who has a solution? We do (Well, with a lot of help from Torera George).
Natural hairstyles for 4c hair can be hard to pull off, but not with Torera George on the case. As a woman with 4c hair herself, Torera is sharing 3 easy hairstyles that have her out the door ASAP. And she is doing this the best way she knows how – via a YouTube video! In the 5 minute clip, she shares 3 looks that are easy, pretty and need simple tools. Here’s what you’ll need;
- Bobby pins
- Curling cream
- A styling gel
- A dense hairbrush
- A hair band or sectioned pantyhose
- An afro wig or previously braided hair
Kick things off by detangling your hair with your fingers to take out any knots that may be lingering. Next up, take some curling cream or leave-in conditioner and apply to your strands. After this step, apply some styling gel to your edges and brush upwards with your dense hairbrush. Tie all this up with your hair band or pantyhose and we are good to start styling.
Here’s look 1
This first hairstyle is a bit intricate and classy and is one we will definitely be trying. It’s so feminine it would be a sin not to wear it with a sundress.
To achieve this look, Torera starts by adjusting the pantyhose to the side. Then she covers the pantyhose with strips of hair pinned over the pantyhose and secured with bobby pins. She then grabs small sections of her hair, rolls them loosely all the way to the tip, tucks them into the pantyhose base and secures with a pin. That’s basically it. Do this all around the crown of your head, adjusting as you see fit and you’re done.
Time for look 2
Even though this look isn’t a major deviation from the first look, it’s just as pretty.
Start things off by adding some more styling gel and pulling the pantyhose closer to the centre of your head by tightening it. Now, this part could be tricky. Take the ends of your hair and loosely pack them together. Make sure you do not tug on the hair to avoid the pantyhose slipping upwards. Twist the ends together, press them downwards to the centre of your scalp and secure with a bobby pin. If you have flyaways, keep tucking them in and pinning. And you’re done.
The final look
We can boldly say this is the most regal look of the three, and the great thing is it’s an update on the previous look. All you have to do is grab an old afro wig, or a previously braided attachment and wrap it around the bun you just created. As you wrap, make sure to secure with bobby pins at the base and you’re good to go. Easy right?
