Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that an Igbo man would someday become the governor of Lagos State, as Igbo people are stakeholders in Lagos project.
The governorship candidate said this at a reception where he was honoured by his Igbo friends with the title: “Ugochinyere Eze Ndigbo” at the National Stadium in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said that Lagos would remain home to Igbo people because they had contributed to its economic growth through their various businesses in the state, pointing that Lagos would welcome anyone who appreciated peace and believed in unity.
He noted that Igbo people had not been found wanting in that area.
“One day, your son will stand here as the governor of this state, a senator in Lagos or any other top political office. No Lagosian will fight an Igbo man because he is part of us. Lagos will be land of milk and honey to you. We know that you are very relevant in this state considering your activities in the area of commerce,” he said.
The APC governorship candidate, who had expressed joy with the honour, noted that he would always remember the day. He pointed out that the peaceful co-existence between Igbo and Yoruba people would be worthy of emulation and that the cosmopolitan nature of the state and the cultural diversity had actually been a blessing and something he would like to continue.
