Manchester United have confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take over as caretaker manager until the end of the season following Jose Mourinho’s sacking. The Portuguese coach had his contract terminated on Tuesday morning after overseeing United’s worst start to a Premier League season since 1990, with the club closer to bottom-placed Fulham than league leaders Liverpool. In their announcement, United explained that a caretaker manager would be appointed ‘while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager’.
