You can have the most luxurious skincare products and the best routine only to ruin it with one seemingly innocent action, using towels on your face.
Out of habit, it’s normal to instinctively wipe your face when you get out of the shower. But using a towel to dry your face might be doing you more harm than good and we’ll tell you why.
Firstly, skincare products work better when they are applied to damp skin. This is because when your skin is damp, products are able to absorb quickly and deeper into your pores. And the better your cream absorbs, the more effective it’ll be.
Secondly, towels harbour all kinds of bacteria that could easily transfer to your face and wreak havoc. You can get acne and other irritations from using towels on your face. Even if you have a separate towel for your face that you don’t use for your body, you can do without it altogether.
Blot away excess water with your fingers
If you want to get the best out of your skincare products, apply them within five minutes of stepping out of the shower. However, the truth is applying products to sopping wet skin can be a tad messy. And what you need is damp skin, not dripping wet skin. So feel free to remove excess water with your fingers, NOT a towel.
You’ll be surprised at the difference not using a towel to dry your face makes to your skin.
While we’re on the subject, find out the right order to apply your skincare products.
