A young lady has been arrested by the police for allegedly absconding with a six-month old baby left in her care.
At about 10 a.m on Sunday, January 13, 2019, the mother of the baby, Abena Kubilla, left her six-month-old baby boy in the care of 20-year-old Patience Anane at Kwame Antwi Lorry Station, Kumasi, Ghana – to go and wash the baby’s clothes.
When she returned, the baby, together with Patience, was nowhere to be found. Consequently, she lodged a complaint with the Suame District Police.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Godwin Ahianyo told the Daily Graphic that following the theft and the subsequent complaint, the police initiated investigations into the issue and at about 8 p.m.on Thursday, January 17, 2019, “two young men arrested the suspect at Bantama, a suburb of Kwame Danso, in the Brong Ahafo Region, together with the baby, and handed her over to the Police at Kwame Danso.”
According to him, the police at Kwame Danso also handed over the suspect, together with the baby, to the Suame District police command.
He said the baby had since been handed over to the mother while the alleged baby thief, Patience Anane, was in the custody of the police pending further investigation and prosecution.
