The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has said he has arrived in Washington DC., United States of America.

Abubakar said he was in the country for a meeting with US government officials and Nigerians.

“Just arrived in Washington D. C. for a meeting with US government officials, Nigerians living in D.C. metropolis and the business community,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle on Thursday.

The former vice-president had been alleged to be involved in a corruption case which prevented him from travelling to the US for the past 13 years.

The ruling All Progressives Congress had dared him to travel to the US to prove his innocence.

Abubakar on Thursday around 8.26pm posted a photo of his visit to the US.

In the photo, where he was being presented with a bouquet of flowers, the presidential candidate was accompanied by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC, however, said it was not sure Abubakar would be visiting the United States any moment soon.

A competent source at the embassy told the News Agency of Nigeria that the embassy had yet to get official information about the former vice-president’s whereabouts in the US.

TheCable claimed that Atiku secretly flew out from Lagos on Wednesday.

Atiku was said to have been issued a US visa last December for the first time in 13 years.

The visa was reportedly facilitated by his former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo.
