A porn-addicted paedophile who abused babies and young children has been jailed for 17 years after he handed himself in to ‘clear his conscience’. Jared Perry, 32, abused children younger than six-months-old in a series of opportunist attacks.
Perry, from Aberystwyth, Wales, was described as an ‘extremely high risk’ to children and was jailed at Swansea Crown Court.
The court heard how Perry, who was brought up in a strict religious environment before becoming ‘addicted’ to porn, molested young boys and girls.
Dean Pulling, Perry’s lawyer, said he handed himself into Aberystwyth police station and was seeking help to cope with his guilt.
Pulling said: ‘He was finding it difficult to live with himself any longer. Coming forward was the beginning of a process.’
He said there was no suggestion Perry had groomed the victims and added the offences were opportunistic in nature.
Prosecutor John Hipkin said the abuse only came to light after Perry handed himself in. Over the course of seven interviews, Perry revealed the horrific nature of his crimes to police.
The court heard Perry began watching porn at a young age, initially starting with adult pornography before turning to images of young children.
Perry also started to abuse drugs and was described as a ‘controlling and manipulative’ individual.
Perry admitted 10 counts of indecent assault and sexual assault on a child under 13.
Judge Paul Thomas QC said he read psychiatric and pre-sentence reports into the defendant and said Perry would be regarded as a dangerous offender.
Perry was sentenced to 17 years comprising of 10 years in prison and an extended seven-year term on licence.
Perry is eligible for parole after he has served two-thirds – just over six-and-a-half years – of his custodial sentence.
