A notorious gang of armed robbers whose area of specialty was to dispossess unsuspecting riders of their source of livelihood, has been smashed.
The four-man gang, including their receiver, was smoked out of hidings after an operation in the early hours of Wednesday, February 20, 2019, during which their victim sustained severe head injury, following a wicked act of being hit with a pestle by a member of the gang.
The victim, Suuru Nofiyonbin, lodged a complaint at Agbara Police Divisional Headquarters to the effect that at about 5:30am on the said day, he was flagged down by a man at OPIC Estate in Agbara, calling Igere, a community in the area.
Unsuspicious of his wicked intention, the “passenger” brought out a pestle from a bag he was cuddling and hit it on the motorcyclist’s head. He thereafter made away with the unregistered Bajaj motorcycle.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident to Crimepuzzle, said: “On the strength of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Adegbite Omotayo, quickly led his Anti-robbery team to the scene, combed the entire area in collaboration with operatives of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO) and succeeded in apprehending the suspect who was later identified as Abraham Lucky, from whom the snatched motorcycle and the pestle were recovered”.
The PPRO further stated that, on interrogation, Lucky named the duo of Emeka Ekenle, 28 and Oluwaseun Adekoya, 25 as his gang members, confessing that they were behind series of motorcycles snatching in the area. He also mentioned one Monday Nzkube as their receiver.
“With this stunning revelation, the detectives quickly led him to the residences of the mentioned accomplices and got them arrested. They all confessed to committing the crime, adding that the syndicate had snatched more than ten motorcycles in Agbara and its environs” Oyeyemi hinted .
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.
The CP further reiterate the Command’s resolute not to rest on its oars until the State was completely rid of crime and criminality.
