An NYPD commander is under investigation for allegedly telling his colleagues to ‘shoot 50 Cent on sight’, according to reports. New York’s Daily News has claimed that Commanding Officer Emanuel Gonzalez made the comment on 7 June 2018 during a roll call at the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, ahead of the rapper’s scheduled appearance at an NYPD sanctioned boxing match in the Bronx. The publication reported that a month before Gonzalez made his comment he filed an aggravated harassment complaint claiming 50 threatened him on Instagram. A source said: ‘The inspector just said that at roll call.
I’m like WTF.’ The reports claim that no one recorded the comment and that Gonzalez passed it off as a comical incident said in jest. However, when contacted for a comment, a department spokesperson for NYPD told Metro.co.uk that the ‘the incident is under internal review’.
The source also added that the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Group 1 – which handles police corruption cases for captains and above – is currently investigating.
Gonzalez, who will be marking 30 years with the department later this year, remains on active duty, officials said. A representative for 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, told Metro.co.uk: ‘Mr. Jackson takes this threat very seriously and is consulting with his legal counsel regarding his options going forward.
