Two women were arraigned in court after being accused of spiking a man’s drink with a substance and stealing money from him. The suspects identified as Joyce Britney and Florence Wangare allegedly committed the offence on Thursday, January 17, at Ngei estate in Lang’ata, Nairobi, Kenya.

The two who were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi denied charges of administering a stupefying substance and stealing.

The charge sheet indicated the two suspects administered a stupefying chemical substance known as Rohypnol to Fredrick Omondi.

They allegedly took advantage of Omondi’s stupor to transfer KSh 1, 940, 000 from his Stanbic bank account. Britney and Wangare transferred the money to their various accounts at Equity and Family banks besides M-Pesa accounts.

The prosecution also preferred joint charges of conspiracy to stupefy with intention to steal to the the two women.

Britney faced additional charges after she was found with seven one-milligram tablets of Rohypnol and Omondi’s phone and ATM card worth KSh 23,000. She faced electronic fraud, stealing and handling stolen property in contravention to the penal code.

She denied the charges and was granted KSh 1 million bond with an alternative KSh 300,000 cash bail.

Wangare also denied the charges and was granted a KSh 500,000 bond and alternative cash bail of KSh 200,000.
