A former United Nations peacekeeper, Edward Onoriode, has joined a host of others to mourn Christine Alalo, a Ugandan Senior Police officer, who is among the 157 persons that were killed in the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday, March 10th.
During Edward’s peacekeeping mission in Somalia in 2016, Christine Alalo was the then Deputy Commissioner of Police, African Mission in Somalia, (Amisom).
She was killed in the plane crash while returning from Italy to Mogadishu, Somalia.
Below is what Edward shared on Facebook earlier today.
January 3rd, 2016 at about 2200hrs, I left Nigeria for Somalia for peacekeeping mission.
On 4th January, 2016 at about 1000hrs, my contingent arrived Mogadishu, International Airport.
Upon our arrival, CP Christine Alalo a Ugandan Police officer was the then Deputy Commissioner of Police, African Mission in Somalia, (Amisom), received us, gave us a welcome address and during her address, she made most of us who were scared due to the scary stories we’ve heard, read and told about Somalia wind away.
She spoke to us in a soft tone, and assured us of our safety and comfort.
CP Christine Alalo is an intelligent, smart, lovely, lively, brave, accommodating, astute, friendly and agile woman. She’s one woman I’ve enjoyed working with. She carried everybody working under AU/UN/EU along and unite every peacekeepers so we can achieve a common goal.
Two days ago, CP Christine Alalo who’s now the Acting Police Commissioner, African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) was returning from Italy to Mogadishu, Somalia and unfortunately, she’s one of the victims of the ill-fated Ethiopia aircraft ET302.
As a colleague, and a member of Amisom Police component, I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the immediate family of CP Christine Alalo, the entire Amisom components (Police, Military, and Civilian), Ugandan Police, African Union and all those who lost their live in the ill-fated Ethiopia flight.
May their souls rest in peace.
