A married police chief accused of romping in a patrol car with a colleague while on duty has quit the job, it emerged today. Former Chief Inspector Rob Leet, 44, had been due to attend a gross misconduct hearing over the alleged 18-month fling with Sergeant Sarah Porter.
But after failing to turn up, the panel was told he ended his 22-year career last month.
Leet was suspended from his £60,000-a-year job with Sussex Police when the claims came to light in 2017.
The dad-of-four and Sgt Porter, also married at the time, are said to have pulled into lay-bys on patrol and had sex.
They are also accused of making up false appointments to meet up for romps in stations. One alleged sex session meant traffic officer Sgt Porter was unreachable when she should have attending a fatal car crash.
Leet was also accused of having sex with a former victim of domestic violence while on duty.
Amy Clarke, for Sussex Police, told the hearing in Lewes: “This is not about whether it is right or wrong for how two adults want to conduct a sexual relationship.
“It is about the fact they were on duty. Instead of serving their community, they weren’t. They were putting their sexual relationship first.”
The hearing opened in Leet’s absence. Sgt Porter attended. Both deny gross misconduct. Sgt Porter admits kissing Leet but denies their relationship was sexual.
The hearing continues.
