Michael Schumacher, 50, is reportedly “conscious” after being in a coma for nearly 6 years.
The Formula 1 champion underwent a “secret treatment” after being admitted to the Pompidou hospital in southwest Paris and he reportedly responded well to treatment.
According to Le Parisien, a member of staff at the hospital in Paris was overheard telling a colleague about Schumacher, “Yes, he’s in my department. And I can assure you that he’s conscious.”
Schumacher has been in an induced coma since December 2013 after suffering serious brain injuries in a skiing accident while on holiday.
Le Parisien reported that the German racer had been admitted to the hospital to receive a pioneering stem-cell transfusion carried out by French surgeon Philippe Menasche.
Though a member of staff claim he has regained consciousness, a family spokeswoman did not confirm this.
FIA president Jean Todt was reportedly seen leaving the hospital on Monday afternoon after visiting Schumacher for 45 minutes but Todt also refused to comment about Schumacher’s state upon leaving the hospital.
