A TikTok video appears to show the final moments of a 16-year-old girl who was shot dead inside an Atlanta hotel room last month.
Kalecia Williams was shot at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta on Peachtree Street around 12.27am on December 26.
In the video, Williams is seen dancing before appearing startled that someone entered her room. The video quickly ends as Williams turns toward the door.
Her mother, April Smith, was among more than 20 people who attended a protest for justice outside the Regency on Wednesday. Smith told FOX 5 that the video was made around 12.02am.
‘What happened after she made that last Tik Tok video at 12.02am and she was dead at 12.23am? I need answers,’ Smith said.
Officers from the Atlanta Police Department arrested a male suspect, also 16, in connection with the shooting and charged him with felony murder, aggravated assault, reckless conduct and possession of a pistol for person under the age of 18.
But Smith says she believes others should be charged in the case.
According to Smith, her daughter was supposed to go to a chaperoned holiday party at an Airbnb; however, it wasn’t until she was informed of her daughter’s death that she found out another parent had paid for their stay at the Hyatt Regency.
‘She was responsible for getting the hotel room for these minors. Her name was on the hotel room for these minors, so I feel like she should be held accountable for my daughter’s death as well,’ Smith told FOX 5.
It’s still unclear exactly what happened to the teenager in the moments after she recorded to the TikTok video, but a woman who was staying at the hotel recently connected the family about what she witnessed during the incident.
Kanautica Starkie recalled to the news station: ‘They were shouting what hotel we at what hotel, she was panicking.
I seen two guys coming out the elevator with a little girl holding her. One had one leg, one had the other and they were saying she had been shot.’
Starkie said she held the teen’s hand as they waited for first responders to arrive to the scene.
According to FOX 5, Starkie recorded video of EMTs trying to resuscitate Williams.
But that revelation made the victim’s family even more suspicious.
‘The young girl said they moved my daughter’s body because of the blood, but when we look at the video from the woman from South Carolina there was no blood, so we want to know the reason why you took her from the floor to the lobby,’ Ronney Savoy, Williams’ stepfather said.
Officers from the Atlanta Police Department said they arrived at the scene in the downtown hotel district and found the teen suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the groin area.
She was not conscious or breathing and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
A suspect was later arrested and is being held at the Metro Youth Detention Center. He has not been identified by police due to his age.
Investigators said the shooting of the teenage girl happened following an argument with a young male while they were both in one of the rooms.
Police spokesman Anthony Grant told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: ‘Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was inside of a room at the Hyatt Regency with a juvenile male companion.
‘A verbal dispute occurred between both parties which resulted in the juvenile male fatally shooting the victim.’
As the family continues to try and piece everything together, they are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything to come forward.
