‘Essence’, the hit song by Wizkid, Afrobeats star, has climbed to 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In July, the song, which featured Tems, had debuted on the highly coveted US music chart at number 82.
This made it the first Nigerian song to crack the chart as well as the third in the entire African continent.
After four weeks, ‘Essence’ would record another leap, climbing by 23 spots on the Hot 100 to achieve 59th place.
In a surprise move, Wizkid had released a remix to the global hit, featuring Justin Bieber, Canadian pop star.
The sales for the initial single were subsequently merged with those of the remix, seeing them chart as one song.
As of 11 am (WAT), ‘Essence’ had risen to 16th place from 44 on week 6, spending nearly two months on the chart.
