Age
Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes was born 8 September 1994. He is 26 years old.
Early Life
Born in Maia, Porto, Fernandes started his career at Italian Serie B side Novara but soon made a move to Serie A side Udinese in 2013, followed by Sampdoria three years later.
Club Career
Fernandes enjoyed spells at a number of clubs in Portugal at the youth level. The 26-year-old spent time at Infesta, Boavista and Pasteleira before moving to Italian outfit Novara in 2012. It was here that he got his first taste of senior football.
His performances were enough to see Serie A side Udinese sign him on a co-ownership deal in 2013. He spent three seasons with the club before moving on to local rivals Sampdoria in 2016. Despite his abilities, he never quite stood out in Italy as a player capable of making a difference.
A return to Portugal in 2017 with Sporting Lisbon proved to be the catalyst for a turnaround. He made 137 appearances for them in all competitions, scoring 63 goals and making 52 assists. It caught the attention of Manchester United who finally landed him in the beginning of 2020.
International Career
Fernandes has represented Portugal at different youth levels from the Under-19 side to the Under-23 side. The midfielder captained the nation at the Under-21 level. He was also part of the country’s Olympic side in 2016.
His time in Italy did him no favours and he was largely overlooked for the senior team. He caught his big break in 2017 when he was called up for the World Cup qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Hungary.
While he did not take to the field in either, it showed he was moving in the right direction. He eventually got his big break against Saudi Arabia in a friendly clash later that year. Fernandes has since gone on to become a regular fixture for the Iberians.
He has represented Portugal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2020 UEFA European Championship. His biggest honour at the senior level came at the international stage when Portugal won the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League.
Style of play
An attacking midfielder, Fernandes is a direct, energetic box-to-box playmaker who is capable of both taking on defenders and setting the rhythm of play. Directness also means that Fernandes tends to take a lot of risks with the type and level of passes he attempts to complete, especially because he often tries to deliver killer ones. However, despite being prone to turnovers, he typically presses the opposition right after losing possession. Fernandes boasts a prolific goalscoring record from the midfield position. He frequently shoots from outside the penalty area and is an accurate free-kick and penalty taker. His movement off the ball is also key, with him often roaming around the attacking areas of the pitch, or dropping deep to pick up possession. As well as operating in the attacking midfielder role, he can also operate in a deeper central midfield role, or as a second striker
Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes has revealed that Manchester United’s delighted stars believe Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the club have boosted their chances of winning a trophy this season.
In what was a remarkable final few days of the summer transfer window, United managed to swoop in to bring club legend Ronaldo back to Old Trafford just when it seemed as though he was heading for neighbours Manchester City.
However, words with Sir Alex Ferguson, various legends and Fernandes himself all helped turn the tide and instead saw the five-time Ballon d’Or winner back at the club where he enjoyed six years of success before leaving for Real Madrid.
Personal Life
Fernandes is married to childhood sweetheart Ana Pinho and have two children, a boy and a girl. His daughter, Matilde Fernandes was born in 2017 while the son, named Goncalo Fernandes was born recently in 2020.

Net Worth and Salary
Bruno Fernandes currently is worth around £6million (€7m), a token amount given his standing at the club. He currently earns £180,000 per week at Manchester United and is the club’s ninth best-paid player. He earns £9.3m annually.
Given his performances, it is fair to assume that a lucrative new deal is in the works and could be offered to him in the near future. This will see him rise up the ranks in the club’s wage bill and land at a position that is befitting of his talents.
Sponsorships and Endorsements
Fernandes is one of the players who are involved with sportswear giants Nike. He sported the Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 soccer cleats for the 2020/21 season.
As his star continues to rise, it is possible that he could be part of more endorsements and such in the years to come.
