Barcelona president, Laporta opens up on Lionel Messi returning to Camp Nou
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has admitted the club is not considering bringing back Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi to Camp Nou.
Laporta also said that he no longer speaks with Messi after his controversial move to PSG.
Recall that Messi left Barcelona to join PSG last summer.
His former Barcelona teammates like Pedri, Jordi Alba have been urging Messi to return to the Catalan club in the near future, but Laporta has now ruled out any possibility of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner returning to Barca as a player.
“It was not easy for me, I would have liked things to go differently, but as they happened, I thought of the institution first and I think we did what we had to do,” Laporta said on RAC1.
“We are not considering it. We are building a new team with young players, but he deserves respect.”
He added: “I don’t speak with him, I don’t have fluid communication with him like before he left. We hear comments from people close to him… Barcelona pulls you a lot and when you leave you miss the city, Barça, he had a great life here.
“I felt worse for the personal and family side of things than the other, but also that.”
