Petrol souvenir: Party host, Erelu Okin, apologises as Lagos CP orders arrest
Pearl Ogbolu, the Lagos socialite better known as Erelu Okin, has apologised for sharing petrol as a souvenir at her party.
Over the past few weeks, Nigerians have been battling petrol scarcity after the supply chain was disrupted.
A viral video had recently circulated on social media showing petrol being distributed as a souvenir at Ogbolu’s Lagos event.
The party, which was held on March 4, elicited a wave of mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Yesterday, the Lagos state government sealed Havilah Event Centre, where the party was held, for contravening public safety rules.
Subsequently, Abiodun Alabi, the Lagos commissioner of police (CP), ordered the arrest of persons involved in the distribution of petrol souvenirs.
Adekunle Ajisebutu, Lagos police spokesperson, announced the development, describing Ogbolu’s gesture as “reprehensible”.
In a post via her Instagram page, Ogbolu said: “I want to use this medium to apologise for the momentary indiscretion of bringing fuel souvenirs into the hall.
