Ex-Chelsea star Diego Costa linked with shock return to England
Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa might make a stunning return to England to join Birmingham City if Maxi Lopez, a former Argentine international, assumes ownership of the struggling club.
According to The Mirror, Lopez has already compiled a list of prospective targets, including Costa, if his group is successful in acquiring control of Birmingham.
The English club’s present Chinese owners are thought to be willing to selling a stake and turning over control to new directors, with Lopez interested in taking over.
Lopez, along with businessmen Paul Richardson and Christian Codoma, is part of a group bidding to take over at St Andrew’s.
Lopez and Richardson, a lifetime Birmingham supporter, attended the club’s final day defeat at home to Blackburn on Saturday.
The duo are said to be interested in operating the club for two years before attempting to acquire it.
Meanwhile, Costa won the Premier League twice with Chelsea but is now a free agent.
Despite winning the domestic double, the former Atletico Madrid player left Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro in January after only five months.
