Why Gabriel Jesus didn’t score 15 goals per season at Man City – Townsend
Former Tottenham star, Andros Townsend has said Arsenal-bound Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus was not able to score so many goals at the Etihad Stadium because he was not the main striker.
According to Townsend, the Brazilian was playing second fiddle to Sergio Aguero, who left the club last summer and retired afterwards due to heart-related issues.
The Englishman told talkSPORT he believes that Gabriel Jesus would be a great signing for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this summer.
He said: “Great signing, Jesus,” he said.
“I know he has had a stick in the past, people saying he has never scored 20 goals or 15 goals in a Premier League season, but he has never been the main man at City, he has had to play second fiddle to Aguero, who has obviously been one of the best players in the world.
“Unfortunately, now we are going to see him go to Arsenal and be the main man to score the goals that his quality allows him to do.”
