‘The cop’s knee wasn’t on his neck like that’ — Kanye West says George Floyd died of fentanyl

Kanye West, the controversial US rapper, has claimed the death of George Floyd, the African-American, was due to intake of fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a lethally potent drug used to treat severe pain. It is often used during or after an operation or a serious injury, or pain from cancer.

Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after Derek Chauvin, the US officer, pinned him to the ground and knelt on his neck in an attempt to arrest him.

The video of the incident in which Floyd pleaded, “I can’t breathe,” went viral and sparked widespread protests within and outside the United States.

An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of Floyd’s death was linked to pressure on his neck.

The protests, spearheaded by the Black Lives Matter movement, condemned cases of police brutality targeting black people in America.

In June 2021, Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years in jail after he was convicted of Floyd’s murder.

But speaking about the incident in an interview on the Drink Champs podcast, which premiered on Saturday, West claimed Chauvin’s knee “wasn’t even on his neck like that.”

“I watched the George Floyd documentary and one of the things that his two roommates said is ‘they want a guy like me’. On the day he died, he said prayers for eight minutes. They hit him with fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that…,” he said.
