Reasons why NBC fines Arise TV
The National Broadcasting Commission has imposed a penalty of N2m on Arise TV, for violating the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
A statement from the Director General of the Commission, Mallam Balarabe Ilelah says the Commission on Saturday 12th November, 2022, monitored the use of a press statement purportedly signed by Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, by Arise TV.
Mallam Balarabe says statement alleged that INEC was investigating the issue of forfeiture by a US Court against the presidential Candidate of the APC, with a view to prosecuting him.
It says the NBC had tagged the statement as fake by INEC and that the organization had also issued a counter press statement to refute the story.
The National Broadcasting Commission had between 19th and 26thof September, 2022, went round the country to sensitize broadcasters and remind them on the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and the Electoral Act as Nigerians countdown to 2023 general elections.
