iPhone 15 is officially UNVEILED – Check out the cost and features

Apple today unveiled the long-awaited iPhone 15 at the company’s ‘Wonderlust’ event in California.

Chief executive Tim Cook revealed that the device will feature a textured matte finish and a ceramic shield, starting at $799.

The smartphone will come in five new colors – a fetching pink, yellow, green, blue and black.

Apple also said that USB-C charging cables are coming to both its iPhone 15 and the charging case of its AirPods Pro devices, allowing the use of the same charging cables already used for iPads and Macs.

iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch display and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery amid a global smartphone slump and problems with sales in China.

The iPhone 15 will be available on September 22nd, with preorders starting Friday.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which starts at $899, feature a 48-megapixel main camera, capable of twice the telephoto option for capturing photos and 4K video, and the new A16 bionic chips.

The iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch display but the same features as the flagship model.

And new capabilities let users take portraits without switching to Portrait mode.

An Apple executive said the company used machine learning to detect a person in the frame, allowing users to turn a picture into a portrait immediately or later in the Photos app.

‘When there’s a person, dog, or cat in the frame, or when a user taps to focus, iPhone automatically captures depth information, so users can turn photos into stunning portraits later in the Photos app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac,’ Apple shared.

New iOS 17 features with the iPhone 15

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature Apple’s latest iOS 17, which is packed with new capabilities.

Live Voicemail will display voicemail transcripts in real-time on the display, and Messages now has new stickers.

There is also Check In, which allows users to automatically notify friends and family when they have made it to their destination safely.

This notification appears like a text message sharing your battery power amount.

The same gesture can be used for AirDrop content and more.

And the new StandBy gives users a customizable full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when the iPhone is on its side and charging.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

The two high-end smartphones are designed in the same titanium NASA used to build its Perseverance Mars rover, currently exploring the Red Planet.

The titanium design also makes the models Apple’s lightest Pro lineup, according to the company.

Both will also be available in four new finishes, including black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium and natural titanium.

Apple touted the new 3-nanometer chip, making smartphones 10 times more powerful than previous high-end iPhones.

‘The new CPU is up to 10 percent faster with microarchitectural and design improvements, and the Neural Engine is now up to 2x faster, powering features like autocorrect and Personal Voice in iOS 17,’ shared Apple.

‘The pro-class GPU is up to 20 percent faster and unlocks entirely new experiences, featuring a new 6-core design that increases peak performance and energy efficiency.’

iPhone 15 Pro remains at the same starting price of $999, but the iPhone Pro Max starts at $1,199, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone.

Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said: ‘This is the most pro lineup we have ever created, with a state-of-the-art titanium design, the best iPhone camera system yet that enables game-changing new workflows, and the A17 Pro chip, which ushers in a new chapter of performance and games never before seen on iPhone.

‘iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max represent the best of Apple design and industry-first innovations to help enrich the everyday experiences of our users while enabling them to unleash their creativity.’

Both models have the equivalent of seven pro lenses — all enabled by A17 Pro.

The Main camera allows users to switch between three focal lengths — 24 mm, 28 mm, and 35 mm — and even select one as a new default.

‘iPhone 15 Pro features an expansive 3x Telephoto camera, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max provides the longest optical zoom ever on iPhone: 5x at 120 mm,’ Apple shared.

‘Great for close-ups, wildlife photos, and catching the action from further distances, the new Telephoto camera on iPhone 15 Pro Max has an innovative tetraprism design with a combined optical image stabilization and autofocus 3D sensor-shift module, Apple’s most advanced stabilization system yet.’

The 15 Pro will also include a customizable action button on the side of the phone instead of its usual mute toggle.

This could be programmed to open up the camera, for example.

Apple Watch Series 9

Apple also announced its new Apple Watch Series 9, which features a touchless ability to answer calls, take a photo with Camera Romte, and snooze alarms – users tap their index and thumb together to perform these tasks.

It uses machine learning to detect tiny changes in blood flow when the user taps their fingers together, freeing up the other hand for other tasks like walking a dog or holding a cup of coffee, said Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams.
