“Even if I stop singing today, my name will still be in Afrobeats Hall of Fame” – Rema toots his horn
Renowned Afrobeats artist Rema recently spoke candidly about his thoughts of leaving the music industry, but he also asserted with confidence that his impact on the genre has already guaranteed his induction into the Afrobeats Hall of Fame.
Rema, who just gave a great performance at the esteemed 2023 Ballon D’Or, discussed his plans to exit the music business and stressed that, even in the event that he did so today, his name would always be associated with Afrobeats.
“I’m not saying I want to stop. But if I say I want to stop right now, my name is still going to be on the Afrobeats bible, if there is an Afrobeats bible to be dropped. I’ll literally be in the New Testament, on the front page,” Rema said.
He fondly recalled the initial ridicule he faced from fans and critics due to his soundtrack’s Bollywood influence when he gained prominence in 2019.
“Everything they doubted, everything they laughed at me for, I built on it. They called me Indian Boy; I went to India. I’m the first artist to shut down four cities in India, 5000 capacity and above. No one can deny that I’ve impacted Afrobeats on a global scale,” he added.
