On May 27th 2024 is Children’s Day and by extension, a story of how a little boy selling groundnut receives a full scholarship from FCMB Group CEO Ladi Balogun has become one of the trending conversations online.
The touching story disclosed how the young boy selling groundnuts caught the attention of FCMB footballers, including the CEO, Mr Ladi during a novelty match.
It was gathered that FCMB footballers, who were about to play a novelty match, were in high spirits with the attendance of the CEO. They called over a young boy selling groundnuts and asked to buy his entire stock.
After handing over the groundnuts, the boy said the total cost was N2,100. Mr. Ladi Balogun instructed his personal assistant to give the boy N10,000, but the boy refused, explaining that he wouldn’t know how to tell his mother where he got N10,000 instead of N2,100.
He declined the money, insisting his mother would not accept it. Moved by the boy’s honesty, Ladi Balogun took back the money and asked the boy to bring his mother.
The mother arrived, fearful and in tears, but Ladi Balogun reassured her. He explained what had happened and expressed his admiration for the boy’s integrity and upbringing. Impressed by the young boy’s honesty, Ladi Balogun awarded him a scholarship.
With his father deceased, the boy and his siblings were raised solely by their mother.
Sharing the development via his verified Instagram page, veteran Nigerian comedian Ali Baba speaks about the important of coming from good home and its effect on the society at large.
He wrote; “My submission, everything is from the home, if the home is good, the society will be good and if the home is bad, the society will be bad.
All our societal and national problems started from the home. Overall, the family system has broken down.
*Please share with parents and parents-to-be*”
