Erisco Tomato puree was in the a few months ago after a review from a customer.
According to the customer, Chioma Egodi, on September 17, published a product review on her Facebook page, saying, “I went to buy tin tomatoes yesterday that I will use to make stew. I didn’t see Gino and Sonia.
“So, I decided to buy this one. When I opened it, I decided to taste it. Omo! Sugar was just too much. Ha, biko, let me know if you have used this tin tomato before because this is an Ike gwuru situation.” The post attracted over 3,900 comments from different users.
The spokesperson for Erisco Food then responded on why the Facebook user, Chioma Egoji, who had published a ‘negative’ review on the paste, was arrested.
A recent report by activist David Hundeyin claims that Erisco Foods Limited, a.k.a. “EFL” has quietly changed the name of its tomato purée product. He wrote:
Other Nigerian online have continued to ask questions if the Tomato puree has truly changed it name. See comments below:
Has Erisco Foods Limited rebranded and nicodemously pushed this hideous brand into the market? “EFL” sounds like Erisco Foods Limited. The cover design, ingredients and location on “Toma Good” is identical to Nagiko Tomato Mix.
They are both produced in Ikeja, Lagos.

Last week, I stumbled upon Erisco tomato paste at the supermarket, so I picked up a dozen to give them a trial. In my opinion, their products are actually good. We need to commend their effort towards creating value and jobs in our society pic.twitter.com/pHVEwLUjpI
