Nigerian movie producer Adanma Luke has publicly apologized for the heartbreaking loss of actor Junior Pope and her crew members in a tragic boating accident in April 2024.
The incident occurred as they were en route to her film set, and Luke has been grappling with the immense backlash that followed.
In an emotional Instagram post, Luke expressed her deep sorrow and regret, acknowledging the pain the incident has caused. “I don’t have much to say, I’m just here to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Nigerians, I’m sorry I took away your loved ones, according to what people are saying. I’m very sad and even though I try to be strong, I still don’t see myself being strong,” she wrote.
Luke also revealed her personal struggle with depression since the accident, exacerbated by the online criticism she has faced. Despite her efforts to stay strong, the weight of the tragedy has taken a significant toll on her mental health.
Reflecting on the loss of Junior Pope and the other crew members, Luke shared how deeply the incident has affected her. “We all loved JP; we all loved the other people that lost their lives, my crew members,” she said, explaining that she had taken precautions by asking the townspeople for life jackets, only to be reassured that they were unnecessary.
With heartfelt remorse, Luke pleaded for forgiveness from Nigerians, saying, “It’s not like I didn’t do it on purpose and I’m taking all the blame. Please, Nigerians, I’m sorry; it has happened. I’m gradually losing my life and getting depressed, please forgive me.”
Her apology serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of the tragedy, both on the victims’ families and on Luke herself, as she continues to navigate the aftermath of this devastating event.
