Nigerians are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of legendary singer Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away shortly after performing at the 80th birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli. Known for her powerful voice and captivating stage presence, Onyeka Onwenu has been a beloved figure in the music industry for decades.
On the night of the celebration, Onyeka Onwenu graced the event with a few of her beloved songs, creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees. After her performance, she took a moment to rest and drank some water. Tragically, she collapsed shortly thereafter and was rushed to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, she passed away after over two hours of intense struggle.
A photographer has recounted howhe took lovely photos of the veteran singer and hoped to share them with her but unfortunately that would never happen. He wrote:
“Who knew she’d be gone after I took these images of her last night,” the photographer expressed while sharing poignant pictures of Onyeka Onwenu’s final performance.

Onyeka Onwenu died doing what she loved—sharing her music and touching hearts. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of many, but her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift.
