In a heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the bank reflected on their immense contributions to the institution and the lasting legacy they left behind.
“Today marks one year since the world stood still for us. On this day, we lost Herbert, Doreen, and Chizi—three remarkable souls who left an indelible mark on our lives and our hearts.
“One year later, we still feel the void, but we also feel the weight of their legacy—one that challenges us to be better, do better, and strive for greatness.
“As we reflect, we carry forward the values they instilled and honor their memories by walking the path they paved for us. Forever in our hearts.”
The Wigwes were among six victims who lost their lives when their helicopter crashed near the Mojave Desert. The tragedy sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s business and financial sectors, as Herbert Wigwe was regarded as one of the nation’s most influential banking leaders.
To commemorate their lives, a remembrance service is currently being held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, drawing industry leaders, colleagues, and loved ones to honor their enduring impact.
