The Canadian Embassy is under fire for refusing visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers.

General Musa revealed on Thursday, February 13, at the maiden annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies, that he and his team were denied entry into Canada for an event honoring war veterans.

Reacting to the development, Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, criticized the decision, calling it an insult to the country.

“This action is not just an insult to the Chief of Defence Staff, but to Nigeria as a whole. If this can happen to him, then what is the fate of an average Nigerian?”

Tunji-Ojo further questioned Canada’s handling of the visa process, emphasizing that diplomatic discussions should have been explored rather than outright rejection. He expressed confidence that Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs would take steps to address the issue.

The incident has sparked widespread debate, with many calling for a review of Nigeria’s visa policies towards Canada.
