Nigerian billionaire and business mogul Folorunso Alakija has reportedly lost her sight following a terrifying near air mishap.

Health Crisis Triggered by Flight Incident

The 73-year-old Founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil was traveling with her husband, Modupe Alakija, when the harrowing incident caused a severe spike in her blood pressure, ultimately affecting her vision.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Alakija initially attempted to manage the condition by acquiring a new private jet to avoid flying with her husband. However, her eyesight continued to deteriorate until she completely lost her vision.

“She had a near air mishap with her husband on board, and her blood pressure shot up, affecting her eyes. Instead of seeking medical treatment, she focused on her church. Now she can’t see,” a source revealed.

From Business Mogul to Religious Leader

Alakija, known as one of Africa’s wealthiest women, has long been involved in philanthropy and religious activities. What started as a small fellowship in her home in 2004 grew into the Rose of Sharon Glorious Ministry International, where she was ordained as an Apostle on her 69th birthday.

Inside Alakija’s Billion-Dollar Empire

With an estimated net worth of $1 billion, Alakija is a major player in Nigeria’s oil industry. She owns a significant stake in OML 127, one of Nigeria’s most lucrative oil blocks located in the Agbami deepwater oilfield.

Her influence extends beyond oil, as she leads several companies, including:
Famfa Oil Limited
Rose of Sharon Group
Dayspring Property Development Company Limited

Alakija’s Recent Public Appearance Amid Separation Rumors

Despite her health struggles, Alakija was spotted at the launch of General Babangida’s book, A Journey in Service, on February 20, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The high-profile event was attended by:
President Bola Tinubu
Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar
Business moguls Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu

While Dangote pledged N8 billion to the IBB Presidential Library project, Rabiu donated N5 billion.

Meanwhile, speculation about Alakija’s marital status has been growing. Reports suggest that she and her husband Modupe Alakija have been separated since March 2024, though the family has not officially addressed the claims.

With her reported loss of vision and ongoing personal challenges, many are wondering: What’s next for the billionaire mogul?
