Veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo has weighed in on the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, asserting that the crisis extends beyond Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was recently suspended by President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing the press, Dokubo claimed that the situation is a calculated attempt to seize control of the state’s economic resources.

“I’ll say it over and over again—what is going on in Rivers State is not about Fubara. It is a battle for the economic soul of the state. Someone is trying to take over Rivers’ wealth,” she declared.

The actress also praised Governor Fubara’s administration, highlighting key advancements in civil service reforms and infrastructure development.

“For the first time, civil servants have been paid a 13th-month salary during Christmas. Salaries are fully paid. Roads are now connecting riverine communities—something that has never happened before.”

“This is Not Democracy, It’s Criminality” – Dokubo

Expressing her frustration, Dokubo described the political crisis as an orchestrated move against governance in Rivers State, likening it to other controversial political events in the country.

“What’s happening in Rivers is not democracy. It’s criminality. It’s no different from what happened in Lagos a few days ago, but they acted like it was resolved.”

She also criticized President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers, accusing him of using the crisis as an excuse to take control of the state’s resources.

Dokubo Slams Tinubu’s Emergency Declaration

In an Instagram post, she strongly opposed the move, saying:

“A state of emergency? After two years of peace? Just to capture the economic soul of Rivers? Because of one man? Shameless! Maybe Mr. President should just say he wants to annex Rivers State!”

The political crisis in Rivers has continued to spark reactions across Nigeria, with many calling for transparency and a peaceful resolution.
