Popular media personality Toke Makinwa has shared her thoughts on being single and childless at 40, admitting that the reality once made her emotional.

Speaking on the latest episode of her podcast, the TV host and entrepreneur, who turned 40 late last year, revealed that while the situation initially brought tears to her eyes, she has chosen to focus on gratitude rather than self-pity.

Toke Makinwa on Marriage and Divorce

Reflecting on marriage, Makinwa disclosed that if she had remarried, she likely would have been divorced a second time.

“I am 40, I am single, and I am childless. I said it, and I didn’t die. That always made me tear up. I used to wonder, ‘How am I 40 and I don’t have a child? How am I 40 and I am single? How am I 40 and alone?’”

However, she emphasized that self-acceptance has been key to her happiness.

“If I had gotten married again, I would have been divorced. The lessons never stop. But I am grateful for the journey, for where I am, and for the fact that I am 40. I’ve built an empire, I am one of the most resounding voices in Africa, I have the love of family, and I am in great health.”

Embracing Her Truth and Living Without Regret

Makinwa encouraged others to embrace their truth without fear of societal judgment.

“You need to sit with your truth, and when you do so, you can’t shame the shameless.”
