90-Year-Old Mother Begs Patience Jonathan to Release Detained Daughter Deborah Erema

A heartbreaking plea has emerged from a 90-year-old woman, calling on Nigeria’s former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, to help secure the release of her daughter, Deborah Erema, who has been held in custody for over five years.

Through tears, the elderly mother cried, “Please release my daughter. She used to feed me. If I die now, who will bury me? She’s all I have.”

Deborah Erema, a former aide to Patience Jonathan, was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged theft of jewellery and household items valued at over N200 million. She is being tried alongside others involved in the high-profile case.

Since the charges were filed in 2019, the case has suffered more than 40 court adjournments, leading to prolonged detention without a clear resolution. The delay has sparked concerns over judicial inefficiency and human rights violations in Nigeria’s legal system.

As calls grow louder for justice and due process, many are urging authorities to address the case swiftly and humanely.
