Eedris Abdulkareem Slams FG Over Ban of ‘Tell Your Papa,’ Compares It to 2004’s ‘Jaga Jaga’ Saga

Legendary Nigerian rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, has condemned the Federal Government’s ban of his new anti-Tinubu protest song, ‘Tell Your Papa,’ calling it an attempt to silence truth and suppress criticism.

According to TSB News, the ban was issued on Thursday by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which described the politically charged track as “offensive.”

Reacting via an Instagram post, Abdulkareem likened the censorship to the 2004 ban of his iconic protest anthem, ‘Jaga Jaga,’ under the Olusegun Obasanjo-led government. He accused the current administration of being “insensitive and vindictive.”

“It is obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism are always deemed a big crime by the government,” the rapper wrote alongside a screenshot of the NBC memo sent to media houses.

He further stated:

“President Bola Tinubu’s government is now going on record as one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent administrations that has ever presided over Nigeria.”

Abdulkareem also slammed the NBC for allegedly instructing radio and television stations to shield the government from public scrutiny:

“They are instructing broadcast houses to shield the government by hiding the candle under the table. Anyone wonder why Nigeria has not made impactful strides all these years? The conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it.”

The controversial track, ‘Tell Your Papa’, has sparked national conversation and gained massive attention across digital platforms following the ban — a development many see as déjà vu in Abdulkareem’s ongoing legacy of speaking truth to power.
