Gospel Singer Buchi Reveals Shocking Past Involvement in Secret Cult

Nigerian gospel reggae icon Buchi Atuonwu, popularly known as Buchi, recently opened up about his life-changing journey from cultism to Christianity, revealing deep insights into his spiritual awakening.

Speaking on Black Flame with Gaise Baba, Buchi shared how a divine encounter pulled him away from a dark past and set him on the path to becoming one of Nigeria’s most inspiring gospel music voices.

According to Buchi, his perception of cultism evolved after he realized it wasn’t just about secret gatherings or rituals — it had deep spiritual undertones. “You can’t bring a knife to a gunfight and hope to win. It’s a spiritual thing,” he explained, emphasizing the need to fight spiritual battles with spiritual tools.

One unforgettable night between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. marked a major turning point. Buchi was leading a chilling procession of over 200 people — some carrying coffins, others holding red lamps — when he heard a whisper that changed everything: “You don’t belong here.” Though shaken, he continued the march, but that moment planted a seed of reflection that would grow into transformation.

“The cult is a leveller,” Buchi noted, describing how it unified people beyond tribal or social divides. But the deeper he went, the more he realized he was on the wrong path.

Determined to find true meaning, Buchi surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, walking away from cultism and embracing the gospel. His journey didn’t just lead to a change in belief — it led to a total lifestyle shift.

Before becoming a gospel reggae powerhouse, Buchi was a lecturer at the University of Lagos and also worked as a DJ in nightclubs. Today, his music — a unique blend of reggae and gospel — continues to inspire millions across Nigeria and beyond.

Buchi’s story is more than a testimony; it’s a reminder that no matter how far gone anyone may seem, redemption is always possible.
