Three popular native doctors in Anambra State—Onyebuchi Okocha (aka Onyeze Jesus), Chidozie Nwangwu (aka Akwa Okuko), and Ekene Igboekweze (aka Eke Hit)—have been arraigned before the Anambra State High Court over allegations of performing money rituals and preparing protective charms for criminals.
The high-profile case, presided over by Honourable Justice Jude Obiorah, was held in a packed courtroom where the accused were individually docked and had their charges formally read.
The primary charges against the defendants involve the preparation of ritual materials and providing spiritual support to suspected criminals. The matter was adjourned to April 11, 2025, for further hearing.
Defence Counsel Claims Lack of Fair Trial
Speaking to journalists after the court session, Remigus Okoli, one of the defence lawyers representing the accused, alleged that the Anambra State Government was attempting to remand the defendants without due legal process, claiming that the accused were not given adequate time to prepare their defence.
Efforts to get a response from the state government’s legal team, led by F.C. Okeke, proved unsuccessful at the time of this report.
