The football world is in mourning following the death of Cameroonian legend Emmanuel Kundé, one of Africa’s most celebrated defenders. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 68.
Kundé’s name is etched in African football history, having played a pivotal role in Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumphs in 1984 and 1988. His commanding presence in defence and leadership on the pitch helped shape the golden era of Cameroonian football.
He also represented Cameroon on the global stage, featuring in the 1982 and 1990 FIFA World Cups, with the latter marking a historic quarterfinal run by the Indomitable Lions — the first by an African team.
Kundé will be remembered not just for his achievements but for being a true pioneer of African excellence in international football. His legacy lives on in the hearts of fans and the history of the game.
May his soul rest in peace. 🕊️
