French President Emmanuel Macron has dismissed suggestions of marital tension after a video surfaced online showing his wife, Brigitte Macron, appearing to shove his face during their arrival in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The now-viral clip captured the moment the couple stepped off their aircraft on Sunday night. As President Macron emerged from the doorway, a hand—believed to be Brigitte’s—swiftly reached across and appeared to push his face from the side. The French leader looked momentarily startled but quickly recovered and waved to awaiting media.
While the internet buzzed with speculation about what led to the gesture, Macron wasted no time addressing the issue head-on during a press briefing in Hanoi on Monday.
“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe,” Macron said, seemingly amused by the global attention the clip had attracted.

“The videos are all real, and yes, sometimes people tamper with them, but people are attributing all kinds of nonsense to them,” the French president added.
