Popular Nigerian disc jockey, Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about a personal experience that taught her a hard lesson about people who pretend to help but have hidden motives.
Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) page, DJ Cuppy — who is the daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola — revealed how someone she once trusted faked their support and kindness in order to get close to her influential father.
According to the celebrity DJ, the incident happened a few years ago. At the time, she believed she had found someone who genuinely cared about her, showed up for her, and offered help without expecting anything in return. However, it turned out the person had an ulterior motive.
She wrote:
“A few years ago, I really thought someone was being kind. They showed up for me, offered help, and made me feel supported. I thought it came from a good place… But later, they made it clear they expected something in return, an investment or, hilariously, an introduction to my dad.”
DJ Cuppy admitted that the experience made her feel foolish for not realizing the truth sooner.
“I learnt the hard way that there’s no such thing as a FREE lunch… I felt so stupid for not seeing it earlier.”
She ended her post with a word of caution:
“Learn from me… Not everything that looks like support comes from a good place!”
Cuppy is known for being open about her personal journey. In a recent post, she also reflected on her upbringing, admitting that she hadn’t fully grasped how privileged she was growing up without financial worries. Now more self-aware, the music star says she is grateful to God for the luxury and opportunities she enjoys.
