Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has opened up about his personal life in a rare and revealing interview. The award-winning artiste disclosed that he has never experienced heartbreak, largely because he has never fully given his heart to anyone.
Falz made these revelations during the first live edition of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo.
When asked by Chude, “Did someone break your heart so badly?”, the ‘Soft Work’ crooner responded:
“I have never been heartbroken. If you don’t put your legs inside water, can you drown? I haven’t presented my heart that much to be broken. I have been giving small of it ooo.”
Falz also admitted that, romantically, he has never told anyone ‘I love you’.
“It is not a sad thing. I’m not devoid of emotion — don’t get it twisted. I have said, ‘Oh, I really, really like you,’ but I just haven’t said ‘I’m in love with you,’” he added.
Falz Speaks on Activism, Criticism, and the #EndSARS Protest
Beyond his music and love life, Falz also reflected on his role as a social activist, emphasizing that his advocacy is not about recognition but about standing for what is right.
“People warn me all the time. Friends say: ‘You better stay out of these things oh,’” he said.
Despite warnings, Falz noted that he draws creative inspiration from his environment and feels a strong emotional pull to speak on societal issues.
He described the #EndSARS protest — a nationwide movement against police brutality in Nigeria — as one of the most defining moments of his life.
“That period was one of the craziest and toughest times of my life,” Falz revealed. “But I don’t regret it at all. I was taught never to regret doing what I believe is right. The protest, the struggle, the connection we all felt — it was monumental. I’m grateful I participated.”
Even though some critics say, “The same people you’re fighting for will fight you,” Falz remains committed to his activism.
“I’m not doing it for anybody specifically. It’s about what I feel strongly about. It’s about compassion. It’s about humanity.”
