Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has sparked speculation about his international future after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Russia in a friendly match.

Shortly after the game, Boniface took to his Instagram page to share a cryptic message that suggested he may have retired from international football.

His post read:

“Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also.
Really enjoyed every moment — the good and the bad.
Thanks a lot. Thank you all.
I don hang boot.”

Boniface, who started the game for the Super Eagles but failed to find the net, was later substituted. His replacement, Tolu Arokodare, scored the equalizer for Nigeria in the 71st minute.

The 23-year-old striker made his international debut for Nigeria on September 10, 2023, coming on as a substitute for Taiwo Awoniyi. He registered an assist for Samuel Chukwueze in that debut appearance.

However, at the time of filing this report, Boniface has deleted the retirement post, leaving fans and analysts uncertain about his true intentions.

The move has stirred mixed reactions online, with many wondering if the forward is truly stepping away from the Super Eagles or simply expressing frustration.
