Westlife has confirmed that long-time member Mark Feehily will not be part of the band’s highly anticipated 25th anniversary celebrations as he continues to recover from serious health issues.
The iconic Irish boyband shared the emotional update on Instagram, revealing plans for a special anniversary show and new music—though sadly, Mark won’t be joining the festivities.
Formed in 1998, Westlife—comprised of Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan, Kian Egan, and Mark Feehily—has enjoyed decades of global success. However, Mark stepped back from performing in February 2024 due to ongoing health concerns, including complications related to sepsis and multiple surgeries.
Mark Feehily’s Health Struggles
In a candid Instagram post, Mark detailed his health journey, which began in 2020 following a surgery that led to life-threatening sepsis. Since then, he has faced several medical challenges, including a stay in intensive care, a bout with pneumonia, and multiple surgeries—one as recent as mid-2022 for a severe hernia.
Despite briefly returning to the stage, the physical demands of touring proved too taxing, leading to his difficult decision to take a prolonged break from the band.
“I wish things could be different,” Mark previously shared. “But I need time to fully recover from the turbulent health journey I’ve been on.”
Westlife’s Tribute and Anniversary Plans
In their official statement, the band said:
“Sadly, Mark will be unable to join the celebrations. We hope he can return to the stage when he is ready. He sends his love and positivity to all of you.”
Westlife’s 25th anniversary plans include a new album, exclusive shows, and more surprises for fans worldwide. The group expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support they’ve received over the years and promised an unforgettable celebration.
Fans continue to send well-wishes to Mark Feehily as he prioritizes his health, hoping for his eventual return to the spotlight.
What Is Sepsis?
Sepsis is a potentially fatal condition triggered by the body’s response to infection. If not treated promptly, it can lead to organ failure and death. Mark’s battle with sepsis underscores the seriousness of the illness and the importance of early intervention.
