Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Dr Eniola Olairan Ajayi, is bereaved. She was hit by an explainable tragedy last Friday, 20 April, when her 26-year-old daughter, Oluwadolapo Oluwadamilola, died during the funeral rites of her father at Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The ELITES gathered that the crème of high society, had on that fateful Friday, congregated at Iyin-Ekiti for the burial ceremony of Pa Oluwatoyin Owolabi Ajayi, who died last January 21. All was going well at the church ceremony, which had the minister of power and steel and Eniola’s mentor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his wife, Erelu Bisi in attendance, until tragedy struck.
Sources disclosed to The ELITES that in the midst of the burial celebration. Ambassador Ajayi’s daughter, Dolapo, who had flown in from the United States for the burial started to complain of headache. All efforts to relieve her on the spot proved to be exercise in futility. Later, she was rushed to a private hospital, where she gave up the ghost.
Predictably, the orgy of festivities at the burial ceremony came to an abrupt end. The uplifting music being dished out from the bandstand by gospel act Yinka Ayefele was replaced with serious wailing and lamentations from the shocked guests.
Ambassador Ajayi, a former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Environment in Ekiti State, also doubles as Nigeria’s representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.
