A day-old baby girl has been found dead in a water channel on Miracle Road, Ifite-Awka, in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The corpse was discovered by residents in the early hours of Tuesday.
A woman, who did not want to be identified, said she suspected that the baby belonged to an undergraduate of a tertiary institution in the state.
She said, “We woke up today (Tuesday) to see the baby girl in the water channel. The corpse was dumped elsewhere, but rainfall pushed it down to the junction due to the sloppy nature of the land.
“I suspect an undergraduate student who comes to buy things from my shop. At a point, she looked like somebody that was pregnant. Recently, I saw her looking pale. This is a sign that the world is coming to an end.”
Another resident, who gave her name as Agatha, warned young girls against killing innocent babies, saying such actions could have “disastrous consequences” in the future..
She called on relevant government authorities to dispose of the corpse before it decayed and constituted environmental hazard.
