A 36-year old man, Mr. Jimoh Yusuf, has landed in trouble after he was arrested for receiving a Toyota Highlander stolen from the owner and bought it for N300,000 from suspected robbers in Lagos.
According to PM Express, trouble started for Yusuf after operatives of FSARS tracked the car to his residence after it was snatched from the owner, Mr. Aliu Asimiju.
Yusuf was arrested with the stolen SUV at Ogunmakun Street in Mushin, Lagos, where it was hidden. The market value of the vehicle with the registration number LSR 565 DM belonging to Mr. Asimiju was about N2m.
It was gathered that the suspected robbers now at large, robbed the vehicle at gun point and sold it the suspect. The robbery incident was reported to the police who eventually arrested the buyer and recovered the Toyota Highlander. It was gathered that the suspected robbers after snatching the SUV from the owner went and delivered it to the buyer. He gave them N300,000 and started using it as his own vehicle until he was tracked and arrested.
During interrogation, the buyer, Yusuf, denied that he knew that the vehicle was stolen but admitted that he bought the Toyota Highlander for N300,000 and was unable to provide the seller.
He was then charged before Ikeja Magistrates court for conspiracy and receiving a stolen vehicle. He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Peter Nwaongwun did not oppose his bail.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted Yusuf bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum. However, Yusuf was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 20 July, 2018.
