A Catholic priest, Michael Akawu, who was shot dead by suspected armed robbers was buried in Abuja on Saturday.
The priest was shopping at a supermarket in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory last week Saturday night when he was attacked by the hoodlums.
Tears flowed freely at the Saints Simon and Jude Seminary Kuje, Abuja, where a funeral mass was held for him before interment.
The Catholic Bishop of Abuja, John Onayeikan, who ordained the deceased in 2017 could not hold back tears, just as many priests, family members, relatives wept publicly.
Akawu, who was just 18 months in the priesthood, was until his death, the assistant parish priest at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish, Dobi, Abuja.
Akawu’s body left the University Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada for the Immaculate Conception Parish Dobi for a mass, from where it was taken to Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Garki.
He was subsequently buried at the priests’ burial ground at the St. Simon and Jude Minor Seminary, Kuje, Abuja.
